~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* >* The Yule Log was a popular event during the Christmas season. During the holiday, a large log would burn in the center of the town square or hall. The fire represented the new life of the new year. And the burning log represented leaving behind the negativity of the past year. We invite you to write the negativity you wish to leave behind, and toss it in the fire!
 Current Artists featured in the Ranch Gallery: Franco Mondini-Ruiz, David Zamora Casas, Maureen-Momo-Brown, Charles Pompa, Ray Chavez, Armando Sanchez, Katherine Brown, Patrice Villastrigo, Kathrine DaLuz Maple, Pat Jiminez, Janice Joplin, Krisanne Frost, Victoria Zapata Klein, Robert Wurzbach, Isaac Shojai, Hans Kappertz, Albert Dohlmans, Juanita Chipman
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

* >* The celebrations of the Medieval winter season are a combination of traditions from Pagan, Jewish, and Christian history. From the Norse with celebration of Yule, to the Celts celebration of the Winter Solstice, to Jewish Hanukkah and finally Christian Christmas, it's nearly impossible to determine  who did what first. It has been said that it began with the Italian Mithric celebrations around December 25th. Which is why Constantine decreed this date as suitable for the birth of Christ. Within the Jackson Ranch Renaissance Christmas Festival, you will find an amalgam of traditions dedicated to this special time of year
* >* Read more about Medieval Christmas traditions here:   http://www.medievalists.net/2012/12/seven-medieval-christmas-traditions/

        * >*            Did you know..

Connections are often touted between Santa Claus and the Norse God Odin…centered around the coincidence of eight reindeer and the eight legs of Odin’s Magical Horse!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We all love our pets.   However, we prefer that you do not bring pets. But, if you must, PLEASE make sure to keep them on a leash (it is actually the law!)  Mishaps have occurred in the past when people carried, rather than leashed, their dogs onto the ranch grounds. One lady was bitten (by a small dog that, "has never done this before and is always calm!")  Further, please DO NOT take them indoors! Thank you so much
English Cracker Workshop! @ The Historic Jackson Ranch
Dec 9 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Build your own English Crackers!  Pulling Crackers to find what treats are inside has been a holiday tradition in England for over hundred and fifty years!
The Christmas Cracker was invented by Thomas Smith in 1846.  During a visit to Paris he came across the bon-bon, a sugar almond wrapped in tissue paper with a twist either side of the centrally placed sweet. Thomas tried selling similarly wrapped sweets in England which only sold well at Christmas.
In the 1850's, he included a simple love poem with the sweet, since many of his bon-bons were bought by men to give to women.  Then in 1860, he added the banger that made a loud noise when pulled apart. At first these novelties were called 'cosaques', then became known as 'crackers'.  Thomas's idea was copied by other manufactures, so he replaced the sweet with a surprise gift.
* >* Bring candies, little gifts and a special note to fill your Crackers! Choose your theme: Christmas, Hanukkah, The New Year!
* >* Save and bring toilet paper round cardboard centers to stuff.
* >* Wrapping paper, ribbon, snaps (the popper), kings hat, extra fillers, and refreshments will be provided.
* >* If you are unable to attend the class, you may schedule and reserve a time to come with your own group, family, friends, social group, etc. To schedule, send an email to: Patrice@SkinnyLlamaProductions.com
NIOSITA for Fortune Telling Booth Volunteers @ The Jackson Ranch
Apr 8 @ 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm
NIOSITA
For NIOSA Fortune Telling Booth volunteers!
This is where I train folks to read cards that we use at the booth at NIOSA, Night In Old San Antonio. The cards were created by Floy Fontaine Jordan, when she was 18 years old, for the first Fortune Telling Booth that she created for the 1st Fiesta in 1920.  Floy's mother and aunt coordinated the Fiestas to support the San Antonio Conservation Society.  Which supports preservation of historic properties, parks, waterways, traditions and the intangible heritage of this multicultural city and its neighboring counties through education, advocacy, grants, preservation projects and programs. http://www.saconservation.org/
Although food and beverages are provided, volunteers are invited to bring a cultural dish to share at this Niosita.  Also, your Floy Fontain Jordan Tarot cards! If you don't have a deck, bring a plain deck of playing cards.  Some folks get the oversized ones!
The Fortune Telling Booth, chaired by Patrice Villastrigo, is in Mission Trail, one of 15 culturally themed areas that comprise NIOSA.  In 2018: NIOSA is on April 24-27.  Hours: 5:30PM – 10:30PM  At La Villita
To volunteer, contact Patrice Villastrigo at Patrice@SkinnyLlamaProductions.com
Shift times: 5:30 – 8 and 8 – 10:30
* >* The Yule Log was a popular event during the Christmas season. During the holiday, a large log would burn in the center of the town square or hall. The fire represented the new life of the new year. And the burning log represented leaving behind the negativity of the past year. We invite you to write the negativity you wish to leave behind, and toss it in the fire!
* >* The celebrations of the Medieval winter season are a combination of traditions from Pagan, Jewish, and Christian history. From the Norse with celebration of Yule, to the Celts celebration of the Winter Solstice, to Jewish Hanukkah and finally Christian Christmas, it's nearly impossible to determine  who did what first. It has been said that it began with the Italian Mithric celebrations around December 25th. Which is why Constantine decreed this date as suitable for the birth of Christ. Within the Jackson Ranch Renaissance Christmas Festival, you will find an amalgam of traditions dedicated to this special time of year
English Cracker Workshop! @ The Historic Jackson Ranch
Dec 9 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Build your own English Crackers!  Pulling Crackers to find what treats are inside has been a holiday tradition in England for over hundred and fifty years!
The Christmas Cracker was invented by Thomas Smith in 1846.  During a visit to Paris he came across the bon-bon, a sugar almond wrapped in tissue paper with a twist either side of the centrally placed sweet. Thomas tried selling similarly wrapped sweets in England which only sold well at Christmas.
In the 1850's, he included a simple love poem with the sweet, since many of his bon-bons were bought by men to give to women.  Then in 1860, he added the banger that made a loud noise when pulled apart. At first these novelties were called 'cosaques', then became known as 'crackers'.  Thomas's idea was copied by other manufactures, so he replaced the sweet with a surprise gift.
* >* Bring candies, little gifts and a special note to fill your Crackers! Choose your theme: Christmas, Hanukkah, The New Year!
* >* Save and bring toilet paper round cardboard centers to stuff.
* >* Wrapping paper, ribbon, snaps (the popper), kings hat, extra fillers, and refreshments will be provided.
* >* If you are unable to attend the class, you may schedule and reserve a time to come with your own group, family, friends, social group, etc. To schedule, send an email to: Patrice@SkinnyLlamaProductions.com
